Catching Up — Pipe Doctor Networking, Back-to-Back Productions, OmniBridge Fixes, and a Reading App for a Friend

A long, full couple of days -- an early start, back-to-back work, and a side project built purely as a favor.

This covers the last two days.

A packed day

Up at 05:30 to do network setup work for Pipe Doctor, a client out in New York. By 06:30 I was at Upload Partners for a production that ran until 09:30. From there I went straight to my workday at church. Then back at Upload Partners from 14:30 to 21:30 for another production.

OmniBridge fixes

Fixed a real problem with older video-mixing setups: a return feed to vMix would stall every minute or two even though the connection itself stayed up. The mixer now connects to OmniBridge, instead of OmniBridge reaching out to it, which sidesteps the problem entirely, and I shortened how long a stalled connection waits before trying again.

Also added a way to see Epiphan's own cloud-connected encoders right inside OmniBridge — their device list, a live snapshot, and a direct link to each source — instead of having to check a separate site. And put together a real system-requirements page with real measured numbers from my own test machine for how much a computer needs to handle plain pass-through versus re-encoding video, with the rest marked clearly as estimates instead of guesses presented as fact.

A reading-cue app for a friend

Also spent a chunk of today on a favor for a friend, for their own project — not for me or for JPPS. It's a small app that listens during a Zoom call and catches an instructor saying a page or chapter number out loud, so it can keep track of where the class is in a book just from hearing it said. All the listening and transcribing happens right on the device — nothing gets sent off to the internet to process it. Also added a backup that reads Zoom's own live captions when they're turned on, in case the spoken audio alone isn't enough to catch a cue.
