Delivery Day at Ace, Two RustProxy Releases, and a Round of Security Updates
A delivery day out front, and a lot of updates behind the scenes.
Delivery day at Ace
I worked at Ace from 08:00 to 13:00. It was delivery day. The truck got there late, so not everything got put in its department before I left.
Two RustProxy releases
I put out two new versions of RustProxy today and installed them on my own server.
The first one makes it harder to knock a site over. It limits how many connections and requests one visitor can make at once, and drops connections that just sit there. It also added a page in the admin panel for every server setting, so I don't have to edit the settings file by hand.
The second one cleaned up the admin panel. It shows what a firewall change will do before I save it, uses plainer labels, and links to the guide right where you need it. I updated several pages of the guide to match.
The RustProxy Mobile Pass phone app from yesterday also changed. When I turn the app off or my phone's address changes, the old address now comes off the allowed list within about a minute and a half, instead of ten minutes.
I also set up a read-only copy of RustProxy and its phone app on GitHub. GitLab stays the main home.
Security updates everywhere
GitHub flagged a security problem in a piece of code that most of my projects use. I checked every project for that and anything else with a known problem, and updated them all. I've put out new versions of several so far, including RustProxy and OmniBridge.
A possible fix for slow VPN reconnects
Last month my internet went out on both connections at once. The connections themselves came back fast, but my VPN took a couple of minutes longer to reconnect. Today I found one likely reason. After a connection's address changed, the VPN kept trying to reconnect to the old one. I fixed that. I haven't proven yet that it was the whole cause.
Keeping keys from expiring
One of my automatic publishing jobs failed because an old access key behind it had been shut off. I replaced it, then set up a daily check that warns me before any of my access keys expire, so the next one gets replaced before something breaks.
